It included all of the commonly used software applications such as a word processor, a database management program, a spreadsheet creator, a calendar program, a dictionary and a terminal emulator. Works was typically installed by computer companies who wanted to bundle their PCs with cheap and effective software programs. Microsoft Works was a useful and cost effective program, aimed at home and small business users who didn’t want to spend too much money.
The last edition of Works to be released was in September 2007. Microsoft Works has since been discontinued thanks to the popularity of more advanced suites such as Microsoft Office. Microsoft Works was a long running office suite that was first released in 1988 for the DOS operating System.
